How to buy gold in Singapore in 2026
Buying physical gold in Singapore isn't complicated, but choosing the first bar you see isn't necessarily the best way to do it. Price, bar size, resale terms and storage all affect the eventual cost of ownership.
Before you start, check the live reference price and compare dealer spreads to understand the current market.
1. Decide how much flexibility you need
Start with the amount you want to invest and how you might eventually sell. Smaller bars let you sell part of a holding without liquidating everything. Larger bars generally reduce the premium paid per gram.
For many buyers, the decision comes down to balancing those two factors. See our guide on the best gold bar size to buy for more detail.
2. Compare actual dealer prices
Check the price of the same or comparable bar across several dealers. Then check the buy-back side. A low purchase premium is useful, but a wide resale spread can wipe out that advantage later. Our dealer comparison guide explains what to look for.
3. Check the bar and refiner
If GST exemption matters, confirm that the product meets Singapore's IPM requirements. Read our guide on whether gold is GST-exempt in Singapore.
Recognised bullion products can also be easier to resell because dealers already know the refiner and specification.
4. Understand the dealer's buy-back policy
Ask what happens when you want to sell.
- Will the dealer buy back bars purchased elsewhere?
- Does packaging matter?
- Is there a different rate for bars originally sold by that dealer?
These questions are easier to answer before buying than several years later. See our guide on how to sell gold in Singapore.
5. Decide where the gold will be stored
You can take physical delivery and arrange your own storage or use professional vaulting where available. Neither choice is automatically better. The right one depends on the size of the holding, access requirements, insurance and how comfortable you are managing physical security yourself. Read our guide on gold storage options in Singapore.
