How to Buy a Gold Bar from UOB

UOB currently allows eligible Singapore customers to buy physical gold through UOB Personal Internet Banking or, for certain products and circumstances, through an appointment at its Main Branch Gold Counter.

You must currently be at least 18 years old and hold an existing UOB Singapore account.

    What you need before buying

    Before starting, check that:

    • you are at least 18
    • you have an existing UOB Singapore account
    • you have sufficient funds available
    • the gold product you want is in stock

If you plan to collect gold at the branch, you will also need the identification documents required by UOB.

Step 1: Check current UOB gold availability

Check availability before you buy. UOB says popular gold-bar designs can become unavailable because of demand. Gold products are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and stock generally cannot be reserved simply by intending to make an appointment.

    Check UOB's current availability

Gold.com.sg links to UOB's current availability mechanism rather than copying static inventory information. For real-time stock, visit UOB's official Gold & Silver page.

Step 2: Check the current UOB price

    Before buying, check:

    • exact product
    • weight
    • fineness
    • UOB selling price
    • timestamp

Then compare the price with the current Gold.com.sg reference. The UOB selling price is a product price, not simply the international spot price.

Step 3: Buy online through UOB Personal Internet Banking

UOB currently recommends purchasing physical gold online where possible. Its current process is:

    1. Log in to UOB Personal Internet Banking.
    2. Select Investment.
    3. Select Gold and Silver.
    4. Choose Physical Gold.
    5. Select the available option, currently described by UOB as Kilobar or Small bar.
    6. Complete payment from your UOB Singapore account.

UOB says a successful transaction displays confirmation that the purchase has been processed.

Step 4: Make a collection appointment

Buying online does not include delivery. You need to book a collection appointment. UOB currently requires physical-gold collection to be completed at its Main Branch Gold Counter by appointment.

    Step 5: Collect the gold

    Current collection location:

    UOB Main Branch Gold Counter

    80 Raffles Place
UOB Plaza 1, Banking Hall Basement
    Singapore 048624

UOB currently requires online purchases to be collected within 10 working days from the transaction date, excluding weekends and public holidays. Physical gold bought online can generally be collected from the next working day, subject to the appointment process.

    What documents do you need?

UOB currently asks Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents to bring:

    • physical NRIC, or
    • valid passport

Foreign account holders should check UOB's current identification and residency-document requirements before attending.

    Can someone else collect it?

UOB currently requires the appointment and collection to be under the same name as the UOB account holder. A third party cannot simply collect the gold on behalf of the purchaser under the standard process.

What if the product isn't available online?

UOB currently allows customers who don't have access to Personal Internet Banking, or want specific gold products not available online, to make an appointment to purchase physical gold through the Main Branch Gold Counter. Check current stock before booking.

    Are there purchase limits?

Some products have specific limits. UOB currently states that PAMP gold bars are limited to five pieces per denomination, per customer, per week. Other products remain subject to stock availability. Because limits can change, Gold.com.sg should not treat this as permanent product doctrine.

What should you check when collecting the bar?

    Before leaving, check:

    • product description
    • weight
    • fineness
    • packaging
    • receipt/documentation
    • any identifying information supplied with the product

Keep your purchase documentation. It may be useful if you later sell through a product-specific buy-back route.

What does the UOB price include?

The UOB product price reflects more than the raw underlying gold reference. UOB states that its gold-bar prices are based on international gold prices adjusted for Singapore market conditions. The more useful comparison is UOB product price vs underlying gold value, rather than UOB price vs a random gold quote.

Should you compare UOB with bullion dealers?

Yes, if your aim is to understand the market. Compare like-for-like products: same weight, similar fineness, recognised refiner, current selling price, buy-back terms, availability, and collection process. A single headline price is not enough to declare UOB or a dealer "better".

Can you sell the gold back to UOB later?

UOB currently provides a sell-back route for eligible physical gold. However, UOB's current sell-back rules include product-origin, proof-of-purchase, packaging/condition and account requirements. Do not assume every gold bar can automatically be returned to UOB at its displayed buying rate. Check UOB's current buy-back criteria before buying if this matters to you.
