24K gold price Singapore
"24K" is commonly used to describe very high-purity gold. But for price comparisons, 24K isn't precise enough on its own. In Singapore you'll commonly encounter gold described as 24K that is marked either 999 or 999.9. They are very close, but not identical.

What does 24K actually mean?
The karat system divides gold purity into 24 parts. In ordinary consumer language, gold that is very close to pure is described as 24K. For a more exact specification, look for the fineness marking. For example:
- 999 = approximately 99.9% gold
- 999.9 = approximately 99.99% gold
For bullion, the fineness mark is the more useful specification.
Is 24K the same as 999?
It's often used that way in everyday retail language, but the fineness mark is more precise. Likewise, both 999 and 999.9 products may be described as 24K despite having slightly different stated purity. If you're comparing actual products, use the fineness rather than the broader 24K label.
Why can a 24K product cost more than the reference value?
Because the number above measures only the gold content. A physical bullion product can carry a premium for fabrication, assaying, packaging and distribution. Jewellery can include workmanship, design, retail margin and applicable tax. So "24K" tells you about purity, not the complete price.

Is 24K gold automatically GST-free?
No. Singapore's GST exemption applies to products that meet the criteria for qualifying Investment Precious Metals. High purity is one requirement, not the entire test. A 24K jewellery item does not become qualifying investment gold simply because it is highly pure.
