- 999 Gold Price
999 gold price Singapore
999 gold is approximately 99.9% pure gold. Its underlying metal value is therefore very close to the pure-gold price per gram. But a 999 jewellery item, a bullion bar and a dealer buy-back quote are still different transactions.

What 999 means
Gold fineness is measured in parts per thousand. 999 means approximately 999 parts gold in every 1,000. 999.9 means approximately 999.9 parts per 1,000. Both are commonly described as 24K gold, but the stated fineness is the more precise measure when comparing bullion.
999 vs 999.9
| Measure | 999 | 999.9 |
|---|---|---|
| Gold content | ~99.9% | ~99.99% |
| Fineness | 999 | 999.9 |
| Common description | ~24K | ~24K |
For a small everyday purchase, the difference in underlying gold value is tiny. For bullion, the product specification still matters.
Does 999 gold qualify as GST-exempt investment gold in Singapore?
Not automatically. Both 999 and 999.9 exceed Singapore's minimum purity requirement for qualifying gold Investment Precious Metals. But purity is only one part of the IRAS test. For a bar, ingot or wafer to qualify as GST-exempt Investment Precious Metal, the specific product must meet the relevant IRAS requirements, including the applicable bullion-market and refiner criteria. Jewellery does not become GST-exempt investment gold simply because it is marked 999. See our GST guide for the full criteria.
How to calculate 999 gold value
- For 999 gold:
Pure-gold reference value per gram × 0.999 - For 999.9:
Pure-gold reference value per gram × 0.9999
That estimates what the gold itself is worth. A physical product can cost more because of its premium.
Why bullion trades above the metal value
A physical bar has to be refined, fabricated, assayed, packaged and distributed. The dealer also needs a margin. Those costs form part of the premium over the underlying gold value. Premiums can vary by bar size — a 1g bar will often carry a higher premium per gram than a larger bar because fixed costs are spread over less gold.
999 jewellery and bullion are different products
They can have similar purity and still be priced very differently. With jewellery, the price can also include craftsmanship, design and retailing. With bullion, the comparison usually centres on fineness, weight, mint or refiner, premium, resale or buy-back terms, and whether the product meets qualifying investment-gold requirements. The purity stamp alone does not tell you whether a product is good value.
Selling 999 gold
The current metal value gives you a benchmark. The eventual dealer offer can differ depending on the exact product, condition, marketability, verification requirements and the dealer's spread. Recognised bullion products may also be treated differently from unbranded or non-standard gold.
A better way to compare bullion
Look at underlying gold value + premium + transaction costs, then check the likely resale or buy-back terms. That gives a clearer picture than comparing headline rates alone. Compare Singapore gold dealers and see how the Singapore gold price per gram is calculated.
