What is rose gold?
Rose gold is a gold alloy with metals chosen to create a pink, rose or reddish tone. "Rose" describes colour. It does not describe purity. A rose-gold piece can be 18K, 14K or another fineness.
Is rose gold real gold?
Yes, when it is genuinely a gold alloy. An 18K rose-gold item contains approximately 75% gold. A 14K rose-gold item contains less gold.
How does rose gold get its colour?
The colour comes from the other metals in the alloy. Different alloy recipes can produce different shades, so not every piece of rose gold will look exactly the same.

An 18K item has a higher proportion of gold. A 14K item has a higher proportion of alloy metals. That affects:

Does rose gold contain less gold than yellow gold?
Not because it's rose. An 18K rose-gold ring and an 18K yellow-gold ring are both approximately 75% gold. The karat controls purity.
