Is 22K exactly the same as 916?
The two numbers come from different measurement systems. 22K means 22 parts gold out of 24. 916 means approximately 916 parts gold out of 1,000. Mathematically they aren't written to exactly the same precision, but in normal jewellery terminology they refer to approximately the same purity class. If an actual item is marked 916, use the stated fineness when calculating its gold content.
How is 22K gold value calculated?
If the item is marked 916, use:
current pure-gold reference per gram × 0.916
If you are calculating strictly from 22K, 22 ÷ 24 is approximately 0.9167.
For a 10g item marked 916:
10 × 0.916 × current pure-gold reference
